Daily Shower Spray- Green DIY

Alright, this post will serve as the start of an experiment on making a homemade shower cleaner. I know I'm not alone when I admit to really NOT enjoying cleaning the bathroom, specifically scrubbing the tub. Which, unfortunately, then results in the tub being scrubbed less often than it should be, a making the job that much more difficult each time I finally pull my gloves on and tackle that sweaty, annoying, tiring task.  My husband (wonderful in so many, many ways) and I don't agree on what a "cleaned" bathtub entails. His bathroom especially seems to be plagued with more stubborn soap scum than mine, maybe due to it's increased use, type of soap and shampoo products used, whatever.

Thus, my experiment that I will record for any other like-minded individuals. I've researched a number of homemade shower sprays and have found one to test out that seems promising. My goal is to find an economical, easy to make, and most importantly GREEN product that will also help to reduce the amount of scrubbing time when the tub gets cleaned.

METHOD
I will clean both tubs thoroughly at the start of my experiment.  For the next two weeks, I will use the spray on my own tub only, and not spray my sweet spouse's, keing his the controlled variable.  Miss E's bathtime will be split up between the two tubs, to try and help keep the use of each the same. In addition, he and I will use the same type of body soap and hair care products for the duration of the test. (Since I would prefer not to use his shampoo and conditioner, he will enjoy the benefits and luxury of mine, lucky man!). At the end of the two weeks, we will both assess the level of soap scum and the effectiveness of the spray.

Here's the recipe for the spray:

INGREDIENTS
1 cup water
1 tsp Castile liquid soap*
1/2 cup vinegar
1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide
20 drops essential oil (optional, for scent only)

DIRECTIONS
1. Using a glass bowl, whisk the water and Castile soap until fully combined.

2. Add in the remaining ingredients and mix thoroughly.

3. Using a funnel, transfer liquid into a small spray bottle. CLEARLY LABEL the bottle as to its contents and/purpose.

4. Before each use, shake bottle well to combine ingredients. Spray liberally after showering.  No need to rinse off.

RESULTS
To be determined...

* I purchased my Castile soap at superstore, in the natural foods and products aisle.
